Core components
01 / ROUTING
UniFi Cloud Gateway Fiber
Central routing, firewall rules, WAN management and VLAN configuration.
Set actual status: Planned / Installed / Tested
02 / SWITCHING
Multi-gigabit Ethernet
Plan 1 GbE, 2.5 GbE and 10 GbE links around actual device needs, PoE budgets and uplinks.
Document ports and uplinks
03 / WIRELESS
Wi-Fi and IoT
Coverage, roaming, HomeKit devices and separate networks where appropriate.
Add AP locations and test results
Network design goals
VLANs & security
Separate trusted devices, smart-home/IoT equipment, guest access and infrastructure management when the design and hardware support it. Document actual VLAN IDs only if safe to publish.
Resilient internet
Evaluate fibre as the primary connection and 5G or Starlink as possible backup paths. Mark failover as tested only after a real failover test succeeds.
NAS & backups
Plan wired connectivity for QNAP and UGREEN storage, and document backup targets, schedules and restore tests without exposing private details.
Testing & progress log
Use this section as a living record. Replace the prompts with dated results when you perform each test.
| Test | Result | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Fibre speed test (wired) | Add measured download/upload and test device | Not recorded |
| 2.5 GbE / 10 GbE link validation | Add negotiated link speeds | Not recorded |
| Wi-Fi coverage survey | Add room, band and measured speed | Not recorded |
| WAN failover | Record the outage simulation and recovery time | Not tested |
| Backup restore test | Record the dataset and restore outcome | Not recorded |
